I'd like to wish everyone a very happy New Year!
I've fixed the recent forum topics list on the front page, it now shows the topics from the TibEd forums again. You may find this topic very interesting if you're using TibEd 1.54 and this topic if you want to have your say about TibEd 2.
Of course, you can start your own topics as well in the TibEd forums, which are a part of the CNCNC Network forums.

I've written a review of Zero Hour after receiving it from EALA. You can read it by going here.
This is not a standard review but more a review from a fan's perspective, who's played C&C games before. I hope you like it!

I'd like to wish everyone a happy Christmas!
While I'm at it: you may have noticed my absence during the past month. It's because I've had an appendicites and was out of the running for some days, and after that I was really busy. But I'm OK now :)
Koen
My development PC is broken *again*. I was playing Zero Hour (GLA mission #3) for about 15 minutes and then it switched off. I think the Power Supply is broken... At least I hope that's what it is, since I just got a new CPU a few months ago after the previous one shorted out. And I don't even overclock or anything. Quality is not what it used to be.
You can feel it coming: I have backups of everything, but my development PC is the only one which can be used to develop TibEd 2. Until it's fixed, nothing can be done.
Koen
If you're having any problems with TibEd, then please use the TibEd forums to ask your questions. You may even find your question already answered, like the current #1 support question: "Can Tibed 2 add units to Generals?" and the answer is "No, not yet".
Click here to go to the TibEd forum
Which brings me to another point: do you have free time to spare and want to do a (somewhat boring) job sifting through Generals INI files? Then please visit this forum topic. It's one of those things that needs to be done, but I prefer to work on other things (like add units support) if possible. If you really want to help, now's your chance!

TibEd 2 alpha 10 is now ready for downloading. This version now supports both Generals and it's expansion, Zero Hour. Generals Mod Selector (bundled with TibEd 2) has also been updated to support Zero Hour.
Another major improvement for this version is that editing now lists all keys, not just the ones that exist for a certain unit/weapon/etc. This means you can easily set values for them if they do not yet exist!
Editing of Object Modules has been temporarily disabled in this version to make room for Zero Hour support. It will be added again in the future.
Click here to go to the TibEd 2 page.
I'm back to playing Zero Hour now, have fun editing!
Koen
Everyone who's been missing me during the last few days: I'm playing Zero Hour. Especially the Generals Challenge. I'm not doing much else at the moment so my forum visits and work on TibEd 2 are a bit slow at the moment. But that'll change after I beat Prince Kassad :)
Koen
The CNCNZ Network forums (where the TibEd forums are located as well) are back up, unfortunately all posts were lost, so if you had an account previously you need to create a new one.

Koen
The main page of CNCNZ.Com is back up as are the content pages. The downloads and forums are still down.
Koen
The CNCNZ Network and it's forum are currently down, so the TibEd forums located there are down as well. I'll post updates about this as soon as I get them.
Koen
I have added a list of the 10 latest forum posts on the front page, below the affiliate list on the left. I have removed the poll since the forum can now have polls and I prefer to use them (they are much more flexible). And the current poll was not relevant anymore since TibEd 2 alpha's are available. If you are having problems with alpha 9, then you can download an updated version (build 30, dated 31st of August) which fixes a few issues.
Last night was the Zero Hour chat with Harvard Bonin, I've had 2 of my questions answered. Harvard has informed us that Zero Hour will use different game code from Generals, that means that updates made to Zero Hour are not automatically available to Generals users as well. For modding, this means you cannot use the new features from ZH in the original Generals, since that does not have them.
Another question of mine concerned Easter Eggs, I was hoping they'd have something like the Ants from RA1 again and Harvard said that there is a 10th Generals which can be unlocked by defeating all other Generals in the Generals Challenge.
Koen
I've updated the TibEd 2 download to alpha 9. The main updates:
- Help system added
- The editwindow tree is now sorted alphabetically
- Project explorer now allows importing of files
- Import entire folders from the game at once
- Preferences editing added
- Missing files are now imported instead of giving a crash
- BUGFIX: Scrollbar in game browser fixed
- Other bugfixes and small improvements
You can find the download on the TibEd 2 page.
Koen
I added new pages for TibEd 2 and Generals Mod Selector.
TibEd 2
Here you can find the download location and readme of TibEd 2 alpha 8. A beta version is not very far away.
Generals Mod Selector
TibEd 2 creates mods which can be used with Generals through Generals Mod Selector. But not to fear, Mod Selector doesn't just work with TibEd mods, it can work with other mods as well. For more information about this program and how to make your mod compatible, read the Generals Mod Selector page.
Koen
If you are interested in the current TibEd 2 alpha versions (for editing Generals), then I suggest that you visit the TibEd support forum.
While you're there, visit all the other forums in the CNCNZ Network Forums as well!

I've returned from my vacation. Be sure to check back during the next few days as I'll announce something related to TibEd 2 and Generals.
Koen
I'll be away on vacation until 11th of August. This means there will be no updates posted on the website during that time and I will not answer my e-mail.
If you have problems, please go to one of the forums and post there. All forums have guest posting enabled so you do not have to register if you do not want to.
If you're interested in TibEd 2 then be sure to visit the forums as well...
Have fun editing!

Gamespot has them:

Screenshot #2
So there's a GLA bike, the USA appears to have a Sonic-like tank which disables Gattling Cannons and there is an unidentified unit on the bottom right side of the 2nd screenshot.

The (first) Generals expansion has been announced (thanks to CNCNZ):
In the meantime, some early semi-public testing on TibEd 2 has begun. It is progressing but not yet beta-quality.
Koen
I just read this on CNCSeries.Com:
According to my hot-off-the-press copy of this month's PC Gamer UK, the new Lord of the Rings RTS game being developed by the ex-Westwood team will use the Generals engine.Interesting... Though I'm not quite sure which ex-Westwood team is meant here: is this the infamous project X which ex-community manager Delphi is working on? Or is it the company founded by 3 ex-Westwood employees after the move to LA? We'll find out soon enough, because this is probably the July announcement... (the June announcement has been delayed, but I think that was a Generals expansion).
Was this one of the announcements which have slipped along with patch 1.6? Time vill tell.
In the meantime, we do know that patch 1.6 will not be released in June like was said in May, since it is now July.
This must be my most chaotic news post ever.
Koen
It seems my ISP fixed the problems with the site, everything is operational again. However, while everything was down, Sonic and me set up a new forum at the CNCNZ Network forums for TibEd.
So, if you have a technical problem with TibEd (installation, bug or crash), you can use the TibEd Technical Support forum.
General editing questions can be placed in the Editing forum.
And I got myself a new Athlon XP 2000+ :)
Koen
My CPU just overheated and has burnt out. And it wasn't even overclocked...
Not really happy right now :(
Koen
During the last 24 hours this website moved around in our ISP's servers. This caused the configuration of some scripts to become incorrect. The poll is now working again, but I'm still working on the forum, which is readonly for now.
Koen
During the last days, the new download script kept getting slower and slower. This was caused by a bug, which has been fixed now.
Koen
The download script on the website has been replaced. This one, unlike the old one, can no longer malfunction so the links stop working. The worst that can happen in the new one is that the download counters reset. That won't give any problems since the downloads can continue if that happens.
Koen
I'd like to wish everyone a happy Easter!
In other news: TibEd 2 is still being worked on, but not yet ready for public testing. Status updates will be posted on this page.
In case you're wondering why there haven't been any updates during the last month: during the Iraq war I did not feel like working on an editor for a war simulation. So not much progress was made. But I bet TibEd 2 will be ready before the Expansion Pack comes.
Koen
PS: That last line was a joke.
EAP is currently working on another patch for C&C: Generals, which will add an interesting new feature which will make having mods installed and playing the normal game at the 'same' time much easier. The patch should be released later today.
This patch will make things a bit easier for me since the (upcoming) TibEd 2 can now place mods in a seperate location and launch them from there. At least, that's the way it's supposed to work when it's finished. I should get back to work on TibEd 2 ;)
Koen
Another patch for Generals has been released... 1.03 patch. You only need this patch, I believe (you don't have to download 1.01 or 1.02). You can also logon to Generals Online, and the patche should be downloaded automatically. It would seem that more patches for Generals to fix more problems are on the way.
Please note that I'll be unable to answer my e-mail for a few days. I suggest using the forum in the meantime, where other people can give you a hand.
Koen
I'm sure everyone is busy playing Generals... so am I. EA Pacific has released the first 2 patches for the game, in order to fix some of the online problems people are having. I'm still busy with the missions, but if you tried to play online during the last couple of days and things didn't work, then try again as things should be better now.
Here are the links to the 1.01 patch and the 1.02 patch. You need to install the 1.01 one first, and then the 1.02 one. Or you can logon to Generals Online, and the patches should be downloaded automatically.
Koen
Today is the worldwide release of Command & Conquer Generals!
Unfortunately I have to wait until Friday before I can get it, because I live in Europe. But it'll be worth the wait, I have been told.
Status updates on TibEd
TibEd 1.6 is almost finished, but I'm working on TibEd 2 only right now, since the 1.x series will not support Generals (and cannot be extended to support it). TibEd 2 will be a brand new editor, built from scratch, to fully support Generals.
TibEd 1.6 will probably be released after the first beta version of TibEd 2.
Koen
For anyone who tried to download TibEd during the last few days: the download script messed up, and you could only download a corrupted file (Installer verification failed). This issue has now been resolved, please download again.
I'm very sorry for the inconvienience!
Koen
As of today (February 1st), TibEd.Net is a proud member of the CNCNZ Network. This means TibEd.Net and CNCNZ.Com will be working together when it comes to contests, content, etc. Stay tuned!
With Westwood being closed down, it is a time for the community to be strong and united! The end of WW does not mean the end of Command & Conquer, it's the begin of something new. With the new Las Vegas studio being a lot closer to Hollywood, do you know what that means?
I see a bright future. A tiberian future. With videos with Joe Kucan (Kane). After all, if you're so close to Hollywood, there's no way EA can tell us that those cutscenes are too expensive!
Koen
I was shocked to find this news on several C&C fansites (this one I found on PlanetCNC from GameSpy Daily, Jeff Brown, Corporate Communications for EA):
[EA has] informed members of the Las Vegas, Nevada studio that they would either be transplanted (which are dependant on individuals accepting offers to move) to other studios or would be given severance packages. [The] number of layoffs is fluid at this point and may not be entirely accurate. The exact number of employees moving onto other EA development studios or being let go has not been sorted out at this time. For some, Friday will be the last day of work as an employee of Electronic Arts, while many others moving forward with EA will stay on until March 31 when the studio is officially closed for good. Rumors of lockdowns at Westwood [are] not true, it has never been EA's policy to shut out employees during transitional periods such as this.
Westwood's last major project, Earth and Beyond, shipped in October 2002, and with development of C&C Generals being done by EA Pacific, the studio didn't have any major projects on the horizon.
From GameSpot comes:
While the fact that Westwood didn't have any new development projects was a major factor in the decision to close the studio, Brown confirmed that EA has "an active plan for more games in the Command & Conquer franchise." Westwood founder Louis Castle is the only member of the studio who was confirmed to be moving to Los Angeles, but other senior team members who have been deeply involved with the series are also expected to continue working on it in the new location. The last day for many Westwood employees will be this Friday, but a transitional staff will stay on until the studio's final closure on March 31.
Contrary to early reports, virtually the entire EA Pacific team, currently located in Irvine, California, will be continuing on and moving to the new Los Angeles campus. Earlier today, before the consolidation announcement, EA Pacific's Mark Skaggs told GameSpot that the studio has strong growth plans and has a couple projects lined up, including an expansion pack for Generals.
From HomeLan Fed (found on CNCNZ.Com):
The new consolidated Los Angeles EA studio (which currently handles the Medal of Honor series) will be the new development home for the Command and Conquer franchise. Most of the C&C: Generals team will be moved to the new LA studio and Brown said there are still plans for new C&C titles in the future.

The game has gone gold, that means it's ready to be manufactured by the replication plants and will be available in stores in a few weeks (11th of February, or perhaps a few days later at your local store).
Are there any artists out there who'd like to make a website banner (468x60) for TibEd.Net? Please post in the forum if you do!
Koen
A new version of Voxel Section Editor II is now available. What's new:
- Fully working 3D view
- Auto-normals (already available in beta versions)
- BUGFIX: Editing normals no longer changes the color too
In the meantime, work continues on the next version of TibEd 1 and the all-new TibEd 2 engine (for an upcoming game, can you guess which one?).
Koen
The Official Generals Multiplayer Test will end January 20th, so all the lucky people who got in have another 8 days to test the game (I didn't get in...).
And it's just 30 days left until the official Generals release date. It's coming nearer!
Command & Conquer: Generals has just gone beta, that means the game is almost finished, and will probably be ready in time for the scheduled release date: 11th of February.
In other Generals news, a french site called C&C: Time of War have posted the latest system requirements:
Minimum Requirements (current)That's a lot higher than the minimum requirements stated a few months ago by EA Pacific...
OS- Windows 98/2000/ME/XP

Memory - 128 MB RAM
Hard Drive - 1.8 GB
CD-DVD - 4 SPEED

DirectX - Version 8.1
Network - TCP/IP compliant (2-8 Players)

This is the minimum specification your computer must meet to run this game. Requires video and sound card compatible with DirectX 8.1 (supplied on CD). *Direct3D requires a 32MB video card using the nVidia GeForce2, ATI Radeon 7500 or more recent chipset with DirectX 8.1 compatible driver. And finally some C&C: Renegade news: the 1.036 update has been released with some bugfixes. Click here to download the update (22 MB) from the Westwood FTP server. Note: this update has nothing to do with TibEd, TibEd doesn't support Renegade! It's an update for the game.
